They are imbued with the sacred spirit of rock’n’roll, a desire to rebel and a feel for adventure. Practically ignored by the major record companies and the music press in their quest for the next big thing thought up over a business meeting, The Duke Spirit have paid their dues and are now drawing a wider audience thanks to the magnetic lure of their live gigs: the grapevine and youtube clips are doing the rest.

Theirs is a rather troubled story made up of commendable albums that should have rocketed them to world fame and a record company that went belly-up just before a major tour. The Duke Spirit found themselves stony broke just before the tour so they went out prepared to play anywhere “just to find money for petrol. If you can survive times like these, you start to feel indestructible,” they say.

They finally find another record company and record a new album called Neptune. The band slides from its original garage rock tones to a pleasant mix of energy and sweetness to almost encompass shades of pop-rock.

Their songs tell of death and rebirth, sadness and redemption, broken hearts and burnt–out passions: all in all the high and lows of life showcased without pretension to a backdrop of fiery guitars and seductive melodies.
