THE KILLS, Music Drome, Milan

A clever fusion of electronics and garage with massive use of a drum machine, distorting telephone line effects and voices. This is for you if you’re really into electronics and on the lookout for a dark, rarefied atmosphere – up for a mix of electronic fusion and hybrid rock with a blues influence.
The Kills, an Anglo-American duo with three albums to their credit, are the proponents of this style and they recently presented their latest album, Midnight at Milan’s Music Drome.

U.R.A. FEVER by The Kills
We went down to hear them.
The relentless sound of the drum machine rips through the venue. We’re at the right place.
The show is tight and totally involving. On guitar and vocals is Alison Mosshart. She wins over the audience with provocative, lascivious movements. Jamie Hince (also known for being Kate Moss’s boyfriend) plays guitar and harmonica and could be Lou Reed’s kid brother.

Seeing The Kills in action is like jumping back in time to when indie labels really were independent and no-one had heard of social networking.
This was a minimal garage rock evening sullied by electronics; rough guitars and obsessive sounds are enough to create a great show in which drums and bass seem superficial.

Apart from the music and the overall spectacular effect, Alison comes over as highly sexy as she struts the stage with feline movements. Jamie does a kind of Michael Jackson moonwalk with added Elvis hip movements. All in all, the two unleash an incredible amount of energy

Interesting encounters during the evening:
We saw Victoria Cabello (VJ from MTV) accompanied by the important contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan, the manager of Rolling Stone Italia, Carlo Antonelli and an appreciated international surprise in the form of Daniel Kessler, guitarist of The Interpol calmly applauding the drum machine patterns.
